Doing What You Love – An Introduction

A gentleman picked up my card at a Balloon Twisting event last weekend. He sent me an email asking about my background and how I got to be a Balloon Artist. He was curious about how someone gets to work at a job doing what they love.

After I wrote him the response, it occurred to me that the same will be a good way to use as an introduction to you, my readers.

xxxxxxx

I was born in Nizamabad, AP India and my family moved to Pakistan in 1965. I migrated to USA in 1974 and have lived here since.

I dropped out of college after three semester to pursue Restaurant Management. I enjoyed working in restaurants and have worked in restaurants – on and off -  for 35 years.

When I was not working in restaurants I tried doing various things, including but not limited to the following:

Cab driver – twice
Package delivery service – twice
C-store clerk – several different times
Flea markets – Had one successful venture that I sold for mid four digits
Roofing
Carpentry
Ice cream truck
Tailor – didn’t like it at all
Network Marketing – Lost count of how many times
Warehouse manager
Business Seminar Facilitator
Real Estate Agent
Real Estate Investor
Car sales – That’s not me
Business consulting
Mail order business
Internet Marketing – still learning and enjoying
Warehouse manager
Avon
Tupperware

In addition,

I was a boy scout and a cub scout leader
I am a certified Montessori Teacher and have taught young children at our religious centers
I have traveled across USA and delivered more than a thousand speeches – Religious as well as non-religious
I am an advanced amateur Photographer
I enjoy writing – Poetry, Essays and Children’s Stories
I like hiking, camping and mountain climbing
I enjoy canoeing and traversing rivers
I love to travel and have been to 33 out of 50 states and many countries in four continents

As you can see I love doing different things and it was this curiosity, and the love for children that brought me to Balloon Twisting. I do not consider it a job. It is a fun activity that pays dividends both financial and otherwise. I will continue entertaining children with my Balloon Art even after it is no longer necessary for me to use it as an income generating activity, which I hope will be sooner than later.

Denzel Washington said, “I’ve found that nothing in life is worthwhile unless you take risks. Nothing!”

Michael Jordan said, “I have succeeded, because I have failed over and over.”

So there you have it. A long winded answer to a simple question.

I am loving it

Wow! It’s been more than a month since I have posted anything on this site. That’s not to say that I have been idle in the last month. It simply means that I have been going through a lot of internal turbulence and had to sort things out before I was able to say anything worthwhile here…. Continue Reading

How about them Entrepreneurs?

I am here in the Tampa Bay / St. Petersburg FL area and I am having fun. Lat month Chris Guillebeau asked a question on his blog that generated way over 300 responses. The question was simply this. Let’s say you were short on cash and had to make an extra $300-500 in the next 30 days…. Continue Reading

Is This Cool or What?

Happy Kid

So here I am in Austin TX, minding my own business and having fun. I have been sitting here at the Cici’s Pizza Restaurant, with FREE WIFI, working online and working off line. While I have been here, I have checked my email and responded as needed, read a few blogs and commented on… Continue Reading

Courage to Be Rich

I a reading Suze Orman’s book The Courage to Be Rich and to say that I am finding it educational would be trite. I am learning that I have issues with money that I am not aware of. But the important thing thus far has been her explanation of how most people’s values regarding money… Continue Reading

…And the Adventure Begins

Yesterday, we packed everything the kids needed for college into my Mobile Domicile (2005 Kia Sedona van) and headed for San Antonio. They are both attending Trinity University this fall. We all got a kick when another van pulled up alongside and a girl in the other van started waving a Trinity University t-shirt. Later… Continue Reading

Don’t Reject What You Don’t Understand

I walked my first labyrinth today. It was an interesting experience to say the least. A friend of mine invited me to go with her. The reason I say it was an interesting experience is because I learned a few things unexpectedly. The first thing I learned was that people who are driven with purpose… Continue Reading
